Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have endured a challenging run in the IPL 2026, struggling to find consistent form. Under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, the three-time champions currently sit in eighth place on the points table. Their campaign so far has seen them secure only three wins out of nine matches, with five losses and one game abandoned due to rain, leaving them with much work to do to climb the standings.
The team's next test comes tonight, May 8th, as they travel to the Arun Jaitley Stadium to face the Delhi Capitals in Match 51 of the tournament. This clash is pivotal for both sides as they look to keep their playoff hopes alive in the final stretch of the league stage.
KKR should be settled with the side that played the last game: Zaheer Khan
Ahead of this high-stakes encounter, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan emphasized that KKR's fortunes rely heavily on their spin department. He pointed out that the experienced duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy will be the "crucial trick" to their success, noting that the team’s ability to win matches is directly linked to whether these two can deliver impactful, game-changing spells in the upcoming fixtures.
"KKR should be settled with the side that played the last game, with Finn Allen opening. This team's success is directly linked with Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy. In this format, just one or two guys having a good day can secure a win for you. KKR are not completely out and could revive their season like CSK,” Zaheer Khan said on Cricbuzz.

The GT game was the beginning of the slide for DC: Zaheer
Zaheer Khan also provided a candid assessment of the Delhi Capitals' current form, noting that their campaign has been significantly hindered by narrow losses early in the tournament. He pointed to a pivotal defeat against Gujarat Titans as the start of a downward slide, suggesting that failing to close out such tight contests has severely damaged the team's momentum. According to India's World Cup-winner, these setbacks have led to a sense of "cluttered thinking" and widespread doubt within the squad, resulting in frequent changes to the playing eleven. As the team struggles with tactical inconsistency and a lack of clarity, their path to the playoffs has become increasingly difficult. With a razor-thin margin for error, Delhi likely needs to win all of their remaining fixtures to keep their postseason hopes alive.
"The GT game was the beginning of the slide for them. You falter and lose such a close game, and then you fail to defend 264, which has led to huge chopping and changing in their lineup. A bit of cluttered thinking has crept in. Doubts have set in the whole group," Zaheer added.
