India’s legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has lashed out at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team management led by Stephen Fleming for applying the same template of death bowling across T20 leagues around the world. Ashwin is against the plan of bowling wide yorkers from round the stumps that was seen during SA20 2025-26 and Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 for Jo’burg Super Kings and Texas Super Kings. Ashwin feels that any Indian Premier League (IPL) team should just watch SA20 to plan against CSK’s strategy. He pointed how wrong it was to make Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj bowl with the same plan, explaining that it is not the Englishman’s forte.
“I saw it in my dream. Wiaan Mulder bowling wide yorker in SA20 round the stumps, Nandre Burger coming from round the stumps and bowling wide yorkers. Then, two guys in MLC (Texas Super Kings) bowling wide yorkers round the stumps. Then, here in the yellow dress, they’re doing the same. Character change, name change, Anshul Kamboj, Jamie Overton bowling wide yorkers from round the wicket. What is this plan guys? To plan against CSK, just watch SA20. It's enough,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

“Every batsman, every bowler. Strategy remains the same. Jamie Overton is such a tall guy. His strength is not bowling yorkers. They are making him bowl wide yorkers from round the stumps.

“There should be two things. You have to plan as per batter and bowler's strengths.”
CSK fail to survive David mayhem in death overs
Kamboj went for 52 runs in his quota of four overs. His only wicket was Virat Kohli which came with the new ball. In death overs, he got Tim David's wicket but off a no ball. Overton bowled three overs and conceded 42 runs. His only wicket was Devdutt Padikkal. He got rid of him with a yorker from over the wicket.
In the last five overs, RCB unleashed mayhem. David hit Noor Ahmad for three consecutive sixes in the 17th over. He hit Kamboj for a six on the free hit delivery in the 18th over. In the penultimate over, the Australian whacked Overton for four sixes and a four. 97 runs were scored in the last five overs, taking the game away from CSK and setting a target of 251. David smashed eight sixes in his 25-ball 70.
