Who is Tripurana Vijay?
Born on September 5, 2001, in Tekkali, Andhra Pradesh, Tripurana Vijay is a right-arm off-break bowler who has steadily built a reputation for himself in domestic cricket through his disciplined bowling performances.
The 24-year-old rose to prominence during the Ranji Trophy after producing a sensational 10-wicket match haul against Rajasthan, a performance that caught the attention of several IPL scouts. Apart from his success in red-ball cricket, Vijay has also impressed in the shorter formats with his economical spells and ability to control the middle overs.
His consistency in domestic white-ball cricket played a major role in Delhi Capitals showing interest in him during the IPL 2026 mega auction. The franchise eventually picked him up to strengthen their spin-bowling department heading into the season.
In the T20 format so far, Tripurana Vijay has featured in 10 matches and picked up 14 wickets at an impressive average of 18.92. He has also maintained a solid economy rate of 6.8, highlighting his effectiveness as a containment as well as wicket-taking option.
Delhi Capitals will now hope the young spinner can translate his domestic form onto the IPL stage as the tournament heads into its crucial phase.
With the playoff race heating up, Delhi Capitals have decided to hand the Andhra Pradesh spinner an opportunity in a crucial fixture against Rajasthan Royals. The franchise has struggled with consistency in certain bowling phases this season, and Tripurana Vijay’s inclusion could provide Axar Patel another reliable spin option in the middle overs.
