Bangladesh's 23-year-old Nahid Rana has been crowned the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April 2026, following a sensational performance during the ODI series against New Zealand. The Bangladesh speedster’s relentless form proved pivotal for his side, as he consistently dismantled the Black Caps' batting lineup throughout the month.

The right-arm pacer accounted for eight wickets across the three-match series, a feat that mirrored his equally impressive display in March when he took eight wickets against Pakistan. This sustained run of excellence has solidified his reputation as one of the most dangerous fast bowlers in the current international circuit.

This accolade marks the first time Rana has received a monthly ICC honor. Notably, he is the first Bangladeshi cricketer to win the men's award since all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz achieved the feat in April of the previous year, highlighting Rana's significant impact on his team's recent success.

“It’s a great feeling to be named the ICC Player of the Month after performing well against a world-class side like New Zealand. To deliver on home soil made the series even more special and it was a series that I will always cherish. I’m grateful to my team-mates for their constant support and belief in me throughout. I hope to keep contributing to more victories and memorable moments for my team,” Rana said as quoted by ICC.

Nahid Rana rewarded for bowling wizardry

Rana’s series against New Zealand began on a relatively quiet note during the first ODI. He managed to secure just a single wicket while conceding 65 runs, a performance that gave little hint of the dominance he would soon display. However, he staged a remarkable comeback in the second match, where he dismantled the New Zealand batting order to record his second career five-wicket haul, following his maiden one against Pakistan just a month prior.

During that second encounter, Rana was lethal from the start, striking twice during the Powerplay to put the visitors on the back foot. He didn't let up, adding three more scalps to his tally to effectively break the backbone of the innings. His clinical figures of 5/32 were instrumental in bowling out the Black Caps for a mere 198 runs, shifting the momentum of the series firmly in Bangladesh's favor. The young pacer maintained his high intensity into the series decider in Chattogram, where he claimed another two wickets. His contributions were vital in securing a 2-1 series victory for Bangladesh, earning him the Player of the Series award. Ultimately, his eight wickets across the month came at a stellar average of 16.75 and an efficient economy rate of 4.46, stats that paved the way for his recognition as the ICC Player of the Month for April 2026.
