Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan has had a horror run in his maiden Big Bash League (BBL) season. As he failed to hit a six in seven consecutive innings, Melbourne Renegades demoted him to no.4. Rizwan finally managed to hit a six after 152 balls in his BBL debut season but it wasn’t enough in the slog overs. He became the first overseas player to get retired out in BBL history.
Rizwan was asked to come off the field after the 18th over. He was batting on 26 off 23 deliveries. Melbourne Renegades captain Will Sutherland stood at the boundary, asking Rizwan to come off the field. The Pakistan batter wasn't pleased with the decision and had a few words to say as he took his gloves off.
Sutherland was run out for a single. In the last two overs, only 16 runs were scored as Melbourne Renegades posted 170/8 on the board.
Earlier, Rizwan hit the first six of his BBL career off Ryan Hadley. He cleared the deep square leg boundary to end the six drought.
From eight innings, Rizwan scored 167 runs at an average of 20.87 and strike rate of 101.82. Only batter in BBL 2025-26 with a lower strike rate this season (at least 100 runs) is Sydney Thunder's Cameron Bancroft (101).
Rizwan has registered scores of 4, 32, 16, 6, 41, 21, 21 and, 26.
Babar slightly ahead with two slow fifties
On the other hand, Babar Azam’s strike rate is not impressive either. For Sydney Sixers, he has scored 154 runs at an average of 25.66 and strike rate of 104.04. However, he has managed to score two half-centuries in a winning cause.
