South Africa captain Temba Bavuma jumped 14 places to enter top 10 in International Cricket Council's (ICC) Test batter rankings. Bavuma was rewarded for registering scores of 70 and 113 against Sri Lanka in Durban Test. As a result, India's star batter Virat Kohli slipped to 14th position ahead of pink-ball Test at Adelaide Oval.
There were a few other major changes in the top 10. England's Harry Brook closed in on teammate Joe Root following a 171-run knock in Christchurch against New Zealand. Now, the difference between Root (895) and second-placed Brook (854) is just 41 points. As Brook climbed up, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slipped to second place despite a 161-run knock in Perth Test.
Another change in top 10 was Kamindu Mendis going up to seventh spot despite disappointing scores against South Africa. Australia's Steve Smith and Pakistan's Saud Shakeel slipped one place each to eighth and ninth respectively.
Changes in bowlers' rankings
In the bowlers' rankings, there were a few changes as well. South Africa's left-arm pacer Marco Jansen who bagged 11 wickets including a seven-wicket haul in the first innings has made a giant leap of 19 places to occupy the ninth spot. The 24-year-old's rise led to Pakistan's left-arm spinner slipping out of top 10.
Sri Lanka's left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya who bagged four wickets slipped three places to eighth. Australia captain Pat Cummins, India's left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja and ace Aussie off-spinner Nathan Lyon gained one place each to move to fifth, sixth and seventh place respectively.
The top spot currently elongs to India's pace-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah followed by South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada, Australia's injured pacer Josh Hazlewood and India's ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
Plenty of changes are expected in the coming few weeks as India play Australia, South Africa take on Sri Lanka and England lock horns with New Zealand.
