Rahul Dravid's younger son Anvay on December 29 played a crucial 90-run knock for Karnataka against Rajasthan at CP Ground, Mulapadu in Vijay Merchant Trophy Men Age Group Under-16 match.
Anvay scores 90 amidst wickets falling at other end
Anvay walked out to bat when Karnataka were 52/2 in the 20th over. In the third over, captain Dhruv Krishnan got bowled by Harsh Singh for a single-digit score. Arush Jain could not convert a good start into a big score as he departed after scoring 20 runs from 41 balls. He was dismissed by Rajat Baghel. A few overs later, opener Arya J Gowda was knocked over Baghel. He contributed with 27 runs from 86 balls.
Sukurth J could not do much either and became another victim of Baghel. He scored 11 runs from 23 balls. Anvay and Syaamantak Anirudh shared a crucial 62-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Puru Dewadwal dismissed for a 65-ball 22. He got rid of Dhruv Modhe as well. Atharv S Deshpande could not stay long at the crease either and returned to the pavillion after scoring just two runs from seven balls. He lost his wicket to Aaditya Wadhwa.
Anvay and Dhyaan M Hiremarth got Karnataka past the 200-run mark. Former India head coach's son missed his century as he lost his wicket to Sujal Parmar. His 90-run knock from 140 balls featured 12 fours. Then Harsh got Gagan Sai Kerireddi for a golden duck. Parmar wrapped up the innings with the wicket of Hiremath. He scored 37 runs from 89 balls. Karnataka posted 239 on board from 81.5 overs.
Hiremath's fifer bowls out Karnataka
In reply, Rajasthan were bowled out for 123 in 53.5 overs. Hiremath bagged a five-wicket haul whereas Gaurav Venkatesh took three wickets and Sukurth claimed a couple. For Rajasthan, only three batters scored in double digits. Ekansh Sharma scored 32 runs from 134 balls whereas Yatharth Bhardawaj scored 41 off 62 deliveries. Karnataka took a 116-run lead.
Anvay wins awards
Earlier, on December 28, Anvay won two awards in the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) annual awards. He was the top run-getter in the previous edition of Vijay Merchant Trophy for Karnataka. He scored 357 runs from five games at an average of 45 including four half-centuries. In addition, he was the highest run-scorer in the U-14 state league tournament. He represented Vijaya Cricket Club in the tournament.
