The Philadelphia Eagles' flop offense cost them the wild-card game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The defending Super Bowl champions were hampered by their disappointing running game in the 23-19 defeat.

After the defeat, Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith was questioned regarding the reason for Philadelphia's failure this season. The Eagles wide receiver said that they were following the same offensive scheme of last season and it is the "execution" that has been missing.

Smith's comment appeared to be a shot at quarterback Jalen Hurts and fellow wide receiver A.J. Brown as the duo have been thrown under the bus frequently this season.

Jalen Hurts had an underwhelming performance against the 49ers as the Eagles quarterback completed 20 of his 35 attempts for just 168 yards, while throwing a touchdown. A.J. Brown had three receptions for 25 yards. Meanwhile, Smith wrapped up the game with eight receptions for 70 yards.

Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has also received criticism for his offensive plan this season. However, Eagles players have backed the OC, putting the blame on the execution.

Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata didn't sugarcoat about the narrative that Patullo cost the team this season with his offensive plays.

"I'll say it like this: It's easier to blame somebody who gets paid less than your starting people," Mailata said. "Everybody knows that. Everyone in this f---ing locker room, even you guys know that. But the story makes better sense if you're pointing at somebody else and not the player."

The Eagles' flop running game under first-year OC Kevin Patullo has been their biggest criticism this season. The Eagles' rushing attack dropped from averaging 179 yards per game to 116.9 this season.
