Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart put up an amazing show despite the New York Giants' flop 4-13 campaign. He was a finalist for the Offensive Rookie of the year award. However, it was Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan who got this honor.
Jaxson Dart opens up on feeling disrespected
As per AP NFL senior writer Rob Maaddi, McMilan got 41 first-place votes. However, when it came to Jaxson Dart, he had just one first place vote.
On Friday, in an interview with the New York Post Sports, the Giants rookie quarterback said that he felt 'disrespected' by the voting process for the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
"I guess more people have conversations and things to say about me sliding. It has nothing to do with my play on the field," Dart said. "So, it is what it is. ... I feel like, just turn off the pictures, the players and just look at the numbers.
"I feel like they speak for themselves. I don't need to argue that. But also, I have a lot of respect for the other guys that were a part of it as well. So, it's just a chip on my shoulder for sure. I definitely feel disrespected."
The Giants signed Jaxson Dart with the 25th overall pick in last year's draft. After starting as a backup, he was named as the QB1 following a )-3 staring under Russell Wilson. The rookie quickly blew up with his aggressive playstyle. He registered 2,272 yards and 15 TDs passing while rushing for 487 yards and nine touchdowns.
The Giants fired coach Brian Daboll midway through the season, while Mike Kafka took over as interim coach for the leftover games. Last month, they hired John Harbaugh as Daboll's replacement after the Ravens fired him after an 18-season stint.
Jaxson Dart opens up about his bond with John Harbaugh
On Friday, New York Post Sports reporter Ryan Dunleavy posted a video of him interviewing Jaxson Dart and Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo.
During this interaction, he questioned the quarterback about his relationship with the team's new coach, John Harbaugh.
"I talk to coach every single day," Dart said. "Both, I mean, on the phone, texts- we talk every single day. And that's just the relationship you gotta have with a quarterback head coach standpoint and I couldn't be more excited to get an opportunity to play for him.
"You know he was the guy on the market that we all wanted and we're just incredibly grateful that you know, not only did we pick him but he chose us. And I can't wait to get out there and compete."
Can John Harbaugh help turn the fortunes of the team this upcoming season and possibly make the postseason for the first time since 2022?
