Lebron James’ ‘The Second Decision” made a lot of noise online. The cryptic post caused a stir among the people as they guessed it to be a possible retirement announcement. However, when the announcement was finally revealed, it was instead a commercial and Stephen A. Smith has something to say about it.
Stephen A. Smith criticizes LeBron James over ‘Second Decision” announcement
During a recent episode on First Take, the ESPN journalist spilt out his feelings about what James did. He said:
“I think one critic said it best: if you make a bad movie, you typically don’t have a sequel. So if you look at ‘The Decision’ and the manner in which that was handled… you would think he wouldn’t want to remind people of that.”
The media personality further added:
“Unfortunately, he was tone-deaf. This was corny as hell, it was cringy, it was all of that — we know this. You’re promoting an alcoholic beverage and trying to give people the impression that this could be your final season and you’re retiring.”
Smith, calling James the “second-greatest player who ever lived” stated that he should instead try to win another championship rather than “try to garner attention for himself.”
The American television personality stated that he doesn't care about the commercial, especially when it's coming from James. The 57-year-old said:
“In fact, if he plays like garbage at any point when it really counts, I’m going to think about that Hennessy commercial.”
Fans are aware that things aren't standing with Smith and the Lakers superstar. In fact, the NBA analyst has even revealed that he and the forward don't like each other. Last season, James was captured confronting Smith regarding his on-air comments on his son, Bronny James, which became talk of the town. The First Take commentator is well-known for his harsh and brutal takes for which he is often criticised.
Meanwhile, LeBron’s recent cryptic post before he finally announced the “Second Decision" to be an advertisement, really broke many fans’ hearts as they predicted it to be a retirement post. Although they are unhappy with the incident, the fans are also thankful that it's not something related to his hanging up his boots.
