The BCCI has announced India's squad for the upcoming ODI and Test series against Afghanistan, which will start after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. In the latest squad, several big changes have been made as some senior players have been rested from both formats, while a few are unavailable because of injuries and some have not been selected without any proper reason.

Big changes in India's Test squad

India last played a Test series against South Africa. From that team, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah have not been picked. Among them, Akash Deep is not selected because of an injury, while the other three players have been given rest.

What changes took place in the ODI squad?

Coming to the ODI squad, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Rishabh Pant, Ayush Badoni and Yashasvi Jaiswal have not been picked for the Afghanistan series. Among them Harshit is injured, while Jadeja has been snubbed as the team management wants to try some new options. Mohammed Siraj and Rishabh Pant have been dropped because of their performances. However, Badoni who earlier had been selected as a mid-series replacement, has not been picked this time.

No place for Yashasvi Jaiswal in ODIs

When it comes to Yashasvi Jaiswal's absence from the ODI squad, no specific reason has been given on the opener's omission despite smashing a century in his last game against South Africa.

Who replace the players dropped from Team India?

The selectors have picked two new left-arm spinners Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey in the Test squad as replacements for Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Gurnoor Brar has been picked to fill Jasprit Bumrah's place.

On the other hand, in the ODI squad, Ishan Kishan has been picked in Rishabh Pant's place, while Gurnoor Brar has come in for Bumrah. Harsh Dubey has been selected in place of Jadeja and Hardik Pandya has replaced Mohammed Siraj.
