Axar Patel hurt his head during the clash against Oman

T Dilip provided a fitness update on Axar ahead of Pakistan clash

Team India continued their unbeaten run in Asia Cup 2025 by defeating Oman in a hard-fought 21-run victory. However, one of the main talking points was how Axar Patel ended up hurting his head while trying to complete a catch. During the 15th over of Oman's innings Hammad Mirza skied a delivery and Axar tried to intercept it. The latter eventually dropped the catch, but also lost his balance and fell hard on his head.

Axar was seen clutching his head after the fall and was soon taken off the field by the physio. He wouldn't return to the field for the rest of Oman's innings. The left-arm spinner only bowled a single over during the match and conceded four runs. On the other hand, he did contribute well with the bat and played an impactful cameo of 26 as India posted a big total of 188/8 in 20 overs.

However, now the focus shifts to India's Super 4 clash against Pakistan which will be contested on September 21 and it remains to be seen if Axar will be able to recover fully by that time. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the 31-year-old can be doubtful for the upcoming match as he has a very short amount of time to fully recover from the injury.

T Dilip's verdict on Axar's condition

India fielding coach T Dilip did provide a major fitness update on Axar after the conclusion of the match against Oman and stated that the all-rounder looks to be 'fine'. However, with the Men in Blue set to be back in action in less than 48 hours, it remains to be seen if the 31-year-old will take the field against Pakistan or not.

"I have seen Axar, he looks fine now at this point in time," T Dilip said in the post-match press conference.

If the all-rounder does get ruled out for the match against Pakistan, then India may have to make a big change in their bowling combination. This is because they will not be able to use their spin trio which includes Axar, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy. They may play a pacer in Axar's place or may even decide to bring in spin all-rounder Washington Sundar, who was chosen in the five-member reserve list for the tournament.
