India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is set to make his return to T20Is with Asia Cup 2025. The selectors decided to show faith in the 31-year-old, despite him having not featured for the side since the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa. Bumrah hasn't made any appearance for the national team in T20Is ever since the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as head coach.
Though there were a lot of concerns over the seamer's workload during the five-match Test series against England, the selection committee decided to pick him for the continental tournament. Notably, Bumrah had missed two Tests in the series in order to properly manage his workload. Now, he will have the responsibility of leading India's pace attack alongside Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana.
Out-of-favour India batter Ajinkya Rahane feels that Bumrah is one of the players who can make a significant impact for India in Asia Cup.The former also believes that even if the latter doesn't take many wickets, he can bowl some much-needed economical overs for the Men in Blue during the tournament.
“I really look forward to see Jasprit Bumrah in the Asia Cup. He hasn’t played any T20I internationals this year. but he has been doing really well in the shorter format. his form recently has been really great. He can come in, bowl at any time and create impact, bowl those tight overs and win you those matches. His ability we all know, he’s a match winner but even if Bumrah doesn’t puck up any wickets, he can bowl those tight overs so that others will get that reward. Having Bumrah in your team is always an advantage," Rahane said on his YouTube channel.
Bumrah's impressive T20I record
Meanwhile, Bumrah does have a great record in the shortest format and has so far picked up 89 wickets in 70 matches. He has also maintained a commendable economy-rate of 6.27 and has been a headache for opposing batters on several occasions. The 31-year-old will be looking to make an impressive comeback to T20Is when he features for India in the upcoming Asia Cup.
On the other hand, India will begin their Asia Cup campaign with the clash against UAE on September 10 before locking horns against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14. Their group stage will come to a conclusion with the match against Oman on Seotember 19.
