Virat Kohli ended the long-running drought of centuries across formats with his record-breaking T20I century against Afghanistan. His South African “best friend” AB de Villiers was quick to post a congratulatory tweet. In addition, he revealed that Kohli had a chat with him the day before and he immediately anticipated “something was brewing”.

De Villiers tweeted, “@imVkohli dancing again! What a lovely sight”.

“When I spoke to him yesterday I knew something was brewing. Well played my friend,” he wrote in another tweet.

Kohli and De Villiers have played together for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The camaraderie between the two modern day greats is clear both on and off the field.

Many former and current cricketers wished Kohli on scoring a century after 1,020 days.

Kohli remained unbeaten for 122 off 61 deliveries. His record-breaking knock included 12 fours and two sixes. His century helped India post a daunting total of 212/2 against Mohammad Nabi-led Afghanistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

De Villiers announced his retirement from IPL after the 2022 edition where RCB got knocked out in the eliminator. The two batters have shared record-breaking partnerships in T20 cricket. They have also achieved the unique feat of both batters scoring centuries in a T20 partnership.
