IND vs SL: Rohit Sharma reaches 10,000 runs in elegant fashion, becomes sixth Indian batter to the milestone

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma touched the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs to become just the fifth Indian batter, and the second fastest to achieve 10000 ODI runs.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma touched the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs, and in doing so, became just the sixth Indian batter to achieve this feat in ODI Cricket. Completing 10,000 ODI runs in 241 innings, Rohit is also the second-fastest batter after Virat Kohli to reach the milestone.

 

The 36-year-old brought up this record with an incredible six off Sri Lankan pacer Kasun Rajitha's bowling in the seventh over of the innings of Super Fours clash at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. 

 

The last two matches in the Asia Cup 2023 have been good for the Team Indian batters in terms of records broken. Against Pakistan, Kohli became the fastest batter to 13,000 ODI runs, breaking the record previously set by Sachin Tendulkar.

 

Rohit Sharma also hit 56 off 49 in the match against Pakistan and shared a 121-run partnership with fellow opening batter Shubman Gill.

 

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also became the fastest pair to complete 5,000 runs in ODI history. The duo have taken 85 innings to achieve this feat as they broke the previous record that belonged to West Indies pair Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes who completed 5,000 ODI runs in 97 innings. Among the Indians, the previous record was held by Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan from 112 innings. 

 

Other records that the batter completed on the way to 10,000 ODI runs:

 

  • First Indian to complete a 10 fifty-plus score in the Asia Cup.
  • 8000 runs as an opener in ODIs.

 

Meanwhile, the Team India skipper is still in fine form, scoring 53 runs in 48 balls, before Dunith Wellalage bowled him with a beautiful ball.
