The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) opted for a reserve day for the high-voltage contest between India and Pakistan.

After India reached a score of 147/2 in 24.1 overs against Pakistan in the 2023 Asia Cup Super 4s contest, the skies opened up in Colombo and heavy downpour forced players to run into their respective dressing rooms. The ground staff rushed to the ground with covers from all corners in an attempt to prevent the playing area from relentless rain. Despite their best efforts, huge puddles were formed on the ground.

As it stands right now, if the match re-starts today but India doesn't get to bat again, then Pakistan will have a target of 181 runs in 20 overs by the DLS methods. In case it turns out to be a 24-over run chase for the Men in Green, then the target will be 206 runs. It is important to note that both teams are required to play 20 overs each in order for a result in an ODI game.

Remember, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) opted for a reserve day for the high-voltage contest between India and Pakistan in case the rain intervenes in Colombo. Interestingly, India vs Pakistan is the only contest during the Super 4s stage for which a reserve day was incorporated.

It is also important to note, that the match on reserve day will begin from exactly where it comes to a halt on the originally scheduled date, which is September 10. In that case, India will begin their innings from 147/2.

But all efforts will be made to conclude the match on Sunday. In case the rain doesn't stop and the playing field is not ready, only then the game will head to the reserve day.

At the time when rain intervened, India's score was 147/2 after 24.1 overs with Virat Kohli batting on eight runs off 16 balls and KL Rahul partnering his former skipper at 17 not out off 28 balls.

The start of the game was all about Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who batted exceptionally against the quality pace attack of Pakistan. The Indian captain scored his 50th half-century in ODIs after Shubman brought up his fifty. The duo registered a 121-run stand in 100 balls before Shadab Khan dismissed the Indian skipper. Rohit departed after scoring 56 runs off 49 balls with the help of six fours and four sixes.

Shaheen Afridi dismissed Shubman in the very next over as he outfoxed the Indian batter with a slower delivery. The right-handed batter departed after scoring 58 runs off 52 balls with the help of 10 fours.
