Team India captain Rohit Sharma is widely known as one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball. When it comes to pure timing, there are just a handful of batters who even come close to the 'Hitman'. With sublime timing and elegant strokes, Rohit has made sure that he would go down as one of the greatest white-ball batters of all time. When it comes to smashing sixes, Rohit is moving closer to becoming the 'King' in that aspect as well.
Rohit has so far smashed 280 sixes in ODIs, 182 in T20Is and 77 in Tests. The numbers are outrageous and it only showcases not just the talent he boasts but the hard work the Hitman has done behind the scenes. Overall, Rohit has 539 international sixes to his name and is just 15 maximums away from breaking Chris Gayle's record. The former West Indies skipper smashed 553 sixes during his international career. Rohit is well aware of the approaching milestone and is eagerly waiting to overhaul Gayle's tally.
"I want to break Chris Gayle’s six-hitting record. Never in my life I would have imagined that I will break the Chris Gayle’s record. It’s funny," Rohit told journalist Vimal Kumar in a candid interview.
Reflecting further on his approaching milestone, Rohit added, "I am not a muscle guy but I like to hit the bowl hard. When I started playing cricket, I was told that timing is important. Aerial shots were a big no."
"We were told that you can play aerial shots. Basic was to keep your head intact, keep the bat close to your body and play the bowl along the carpet. If we used to play aerial shots, coach used to throw us out from the game," he added.
Rohit is bound to break Gayle's record, sooner rather than later. Remember, Rohit once held the record for smashing the most sixes in an ODI game when he powered 16 maximums against Australia. It's only a matter time before Rohit sails past Gayle and sets the benchmark even higher.
