Mushfiqur entered the series against India with a strong performance fresh in his memory, having scored 191 runs in the first Test against Pakistan. However, at the Chepauk, he faced challenges in finding his rhythm against Rohit Sharma's team.

In the first innings, Mushfiqur struggled to score runs, managing just eight runs from 14 balls. Jasprit Bumrah induced a false shot, and KL Rahul took a straightforward catch to dismiss him. In the second innings, Mushfiqur made a brief cameo of 13 runs from 11 balls but was ultimately dismissed by Ravi Ashwin. After a review confirmed KL Rahul's clean catch, Mushfiqur was given out.

Bangladesh chase colossal target

At the end of Day 3, Bangladesh found themselves with a challenging task, needing 357 runs to win the first Test with six wickets remaining. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was in good form, remaining unbeaten on 51 runs. Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam had made promising starts with knocks of 33 and 35, but both were unable to convert their starts into substantial scores. For India, Jasprit Bumrah provided an early breakthrough, dismissing Zakir Hasan. Ravichandran Ashwin then took control, claiming the wickets of Shadman Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mominul Haque Showrabh. Bangladesh will need a strong performance from their remaining batsmen on Day 4 to secure a victory. It was Shubman Gill (119 off 176) and Rishabh Pant's (109 off 128) centurion knocks which helped India post a colossal 515-run target for Bangladesh to chase.
