Yashasvi Jaiswal looked uncomfortable against Jasprit Bumrah in the nets.

Jaiswal will be tested by Nahid Rana's pace in the first Test.

It is not easy to face Jasprit Bumrah, hundreds of international batters from the current era will attest to that. The fast bowler who seems to be in his prime is gearing up for the Test series against Bangladesh at home, his first match since the T20 World Cup 2024 final. In the nets, he bowled to a young Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-handed batter has been touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket. Even a few Australians picked him as the rising star months ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. But on September 16, Jaiswal had no answers to questions Bumrah posed.

As per a report by PTI, Bumrah troubled opener Jaiswal with his pace, swing and bounce. The left-handed batter was lacklustre against Bumrah. His stump was often sent carthwheeling by the menacing pacer. He beat Jaiswal’s bat several times making time tough for the youngster in the nets. At one point, it seemed like he didn’t know where his offstump was. Lacking in confidence, he was troubled by net bowler Simarjeet Singh, Gurnoor Brar and Gurjanpreet Singh as well.

But Jaiswal got some tips from the best. Virat Kohli who is raring to get back to red-ball cricket talked to him during the net session explaining what was wrong in the technique and approach.

The 22-year-old will be tested by the pace of Taskin Ahmed and a young Nahid Rana at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. While Taskin is experienced, Rana posseses raw pace which made former Pakistan captain Babar Azam look like he has no clue. Rana is capable of bowling in high 140s and it will be a contest to watch out for. In addition, Hasan will be honing in on his lines to keep Jaiswal in check.

No problem against spinners

On the bright side, he looked comfortable comfortable against spinners whacking them for big sixes. Bangladesh have plenty spinners in their ranks from Shakib Al Hasan to Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam.

So far, the Mumbai batter has been impressive in red-ball cricket. He averages 68.53 in Tests having scored 1,028 runs from 16 innings. He has three centuries and four fifties to his name already.

Jaiswal in Duleep Trophy

In the first round of Duleep Trophy 2024, he turned up for India B and registered scores of 30 and 9. Again, he was troubled by pacers. In both innings, he was dismissed by left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed. It will be interesting to see how Jaiswal fares in his second Test season.
