Punjab Kings all-rounder Odean Smith showed his batting prowess at the IPL when he thumped India’s hotshot bowler Mohammed Siraj for three sixes on the trot. Since then the brawny all-rounder for myriad fans has been well-established as a power hitter who can without question hit the ball out of the park anytime.

He didn’t shy away from showboating his brute force with the bat again. Odean powered a quick-fire innings of 42 runs off 16 balls, courtesy of smacking Migael Pretorious for five sixes in a single over.

Odean’s team Guyana Amazon Warriors found themselves in dire straits with seven batters back in the hut for the score of 104 against Jamaica Tallawahs.
That is when things turned on its head after a roundabout took place in the impetus favouring Guyana warriors.

Odean Smith left as the only recognised batter took up the batting mantle of bringing his team to a respectable total and capitalised on the 19th over of South Africa’s M.Pretorious. Needless to say, he had Guyana fans jubilant after delighting them with 5 gigantic sixes in a fruitful over of 31 runs which bolstered their total.

Here’s the video:

West Indies legend Ian Bishop couldn’t help but express his amazement about Odean Smith’s hitting ability that had sixes pelting down, he had his say on Twitter.

“That was some ball striking by Odean Smith and Keemo Paul tonight for the @GYAmazonWarrior. A little glimpse into what so many of us here in the Caribbean hope to see more of in international cricket,” Bishop wrote on Twitter.

With Guyana amassing 74 runs in the last 3 overs, Guyana Warriors get to an above-par score of 178/8 thanks to some insane hitting by Odean Smith. However, Smith was dismissed for 42 runs after causing irreparable damage as the target of 179 was too good on the day for Jamaica Tallawahs resulting in falling short of the target by 12 runs.

Odean Smith was rightly adjudged as the player of the match for his scintillating 42 runs that only dealt in sixes (6). In the post-match interview, Odean opined on his performance “I went out there and I knew what I had to do. The wicket was very very good. Just stood my ground, kept my base and hit the ball. We were trying to get 160, very good that we got to 168. It came down really close. We didn't get the start we wanted, I knew I had to stand up and hit the ball. Lot of tension, I started the over and the first ball went for a six. I told the boys to remain calm. I have bowled overs like this in the past, haven't gone my way but I have learnt from them. Keep believing and keep supporting us. Hopefully with the fans, we can win the remaining three games. That was a very good century (from Brandon King). The wicket was really good.”
