In order to evaluate the security plans for an ODI tri-series between South Africa, New Zealand, and Pakistan, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) recently dispatched a delegation to Pakistan. Brad Rodden, a representative of the New Zealand Players' Association, and security specialist Reg Dickason were part of the delegation. The two are taking notes on the security arrangements and whether everything is in line for the forthcoming series after visiting Karachi and Lahore. Notably, Pakistan will host South Africa and New Zealand prior to the Champions Trophy 2025, which will now be conducted using the hybrid format.
ICC also visits Pakistan
Additionally, the ICC delegations also arrived in Pakistan, much like the NZC delegation did. They have come to assess the plans and preparations for the forthcoming Champions Trophy. It is important to note that the Indian team will play their Champions Trophy matches outside of Pakistan; the exact location has not yet been made official.
ICC confirms hybrid model for Champions Trophy
The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that the 2025 Champions Trophy would use a hybrid format, with India's matches in the eight-team competition being played at a neutral location.
"India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at a neutral venue," ICC stated in an official statement released on December 19.
This has confirmed that Pakistan will also be not travelling to India for their matches in mega tournaments like the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025 and the T20 World Cup in 2026.
The schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has not been announced yet but an official statement is expected to come soon. Pakistan are the host and defending champions of the much-awaited marquee event and will be aiming to defend the title they won in 2017. The eight-team event will feature Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan.
