India's star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has set a new record by becoming the fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in Test cricket, surpassing the previous joint record holders Sunil Gavaskar and Cheteshwar Pujara, who both reached the milestone in 11 Tests. Jaiswal achieved this feat on Day 1 of the fifth Test against England. Notably he brought up his 1000 Test runs in just his ninth Test match, placing him as the joint second fastest overall to reach this milestone. Don Bradman tops the chart as he reached 1000 runs in merely seven Test matches. Jaiswal now shares the second spot with cricket legends Herbert Sutcliffe, Everton Weekes, and George Headley.

In terms of innings, Jaiswal reached this milestone in his 16th innings, making him the sixth fastest overall to the 1000-run mark in Test cricket. In terms of Indian players, Vinod Kambli leads the chart, having reached 1000 Test runs in 14 innings, with Jaiswal now as the second fastest Indian, surpassing Cheteshwar Pujara who took 18 innings. Overall, Jaiswal has gone past players like Graeme Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, who took slightly more innings to achieve this landmark.

On top of it, Jaiswal broke another record by surpassing Virat Kohli for the most runs in a Test series between India and England. With his performance in the ongoing Dharamsala Test, where he scored one run in the first innings, Jaiswal has amassed a total of 707 runs so far in the series, ascending quickly in the elite list of most runs scored in a single Test series.
Talking about the match, India rode on Jaiswal (57) and Rohit Sharma's (52) brilliant fifties to finish the day on 135/1 after Kuldeep Yadav's brilliant fifer gunned down England for just 218 in the opening day.
