ECB has announce England team for the second T20I against India which is slated to be played in Chennai on January 24. England announced a 12-member team for the second game of the five-match series. Brydon Carse has replaced Gus Atkinson in the team, while wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith was included as a potential replacement for Jacob Bethell, who may be unavailable due to illness.

The Jos Buttler-led England team suffered a seven-wicket defeat in the opening T20I against India at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22. Batting first, England struggled to build momentum and were restricted to a modest total of 132 runs. In response, the Indian team comfortably chased down the target with more than seven overs to spare, securing a convincing victory.

The second T20I between India and England will be a historic occasion for both teams. For England, it marks their first-ever T20I match in Chennai. Also, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host a T20I match for the first time since 2017.

How have India fared in Chennai in T20Is?

This will be only the third T20I match to be played at the Chepauk Stadium. India has a mixed record at this venue in the T20I format, with one win and one loss. In their first T20I at Chepauk in September 2012, they faced defeat against New Zealand by a narrow margin of one run. Brendon McCullum played a pivotal role for New Zealand, scoring 91 runs off 55 balls, while Virat Kohli's impressive 70 off 41 balls proved insufficient for India. India's most recent T20I at the venue was against the West Indies in November 2018. In a thrilling encounter, India secured a six-wicket victory, chasing down a target of 182 runs with a ball to spare. Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant played crucial roles in the chase, scoring 92 and 58 runs respectively.
