India won the series 3-0 on Wednesday, February 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad thanks to a spectacular century from Shubman Gill and a comprehensive bowling display. India just waited for England to collapse in the chase after scoring an incredible 356 runs in the first innings. The visitors lost the match by 142 runs after managing just 214 runs in 34.2 overs. Jos Buttler's English squad had a disappointing tour, losing seven of their eight white-ball matches against the Indian team.
Rohit Sharma on the win
The Indian captain was extremely pleased with the way this series went. He was happy with the way his team performed but also said that there are certain things on which they need to improve. He also talked about having the freedom to play the way they want in a team.
"Very very pleasing (with the way the series went). We knew there will be challenges that we could face. I mean there is nothing I could have done about that (the ball that got rid of him today). Credit to the bowler and the bowler is there to get you out and you are there as a batter to challenge that. Just nicked the ball, second ball I was facing and couldn't have done anything about that. I don't see there was anything wrong we did this series. Obviously there are certain things we are looking at (to improve) and I am not going to stand here and explain those.
"It is our job as well to keep some consistency within the squad and the communication is clear. Obviously any champion team wants to get better every game and move forward from there. Very happy with the score (at the break). There is a bit of freedom in the squad to go out there and play the way you want. The World Cup was a perfect example of that and we want to continue to do that. There will be times it will not fall in place but that's okay," he added.
India clean sweeped the visitors to win the series 3-0 and gain good momentum ahead of the much-awaited Champions Trophy 2025. Shubman Gill's century and fifties from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer were the highlights of the Indian batting. Gill produced a scorching hundred against England in the third ODI. Gill hammered the England bowlers, reaching his hundred in just 95 balls. This was Gill's seventh ODI hundred. The Indian vice-captain has been the Men in Blue's most reliable batter in the current series with an 87 in the opening game and a 60 in Cuttack.
Apart from Gill, Kohli scored 52 off 55, Iyer 78 off 64, and KL Rahul played a cameo knock of 40 runs off 29 balls. Riding on these knocks, the hosts managed to post a massive total of 356 runs. England kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. England went from 60/1 to 175/8 as they failed to build a partnership around any point in time. They were eventually bowled out for 214 runs. Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel took two wickets each. Meanwhile, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav settled with one each.
