Afghan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq announces retirement from ODI cricket after touching down in India for World Cup 2023

Naveen-ul-Haq recently made a comeback to the ODI squad ahead of ODI World Cup 2023. Naveen will continue to represent Afghanistan in T20I format.

Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq shocked the cricket fraternity as he announced his retirement from ODI cricket after reaching India for the World Cup 2023. Naveen will retire from the One-Day format after the completion of the ODI World Cup. He has taken the decision to prolong his T20I career.
 

“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country would like to announce my retirement from ODI format at end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in t20 cricket for my country it hasn’t been an easy decision to make but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision would like to thank @afghanistancricketboard and all my fans for their support and unwavering love,” Naveen wrote in a post on his Instagram account. 
 

Recently, the 24-year-old made a comeback to the ODI squad after a long period of 44 months. He has represented Afghanistan in just seven ODIs so far with 14 wickets to his name.

Afghanistan will begin their preparations with the first warm-up game against an in-form Temba Bavuma-led South Africa at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on September 29. Their second warm-up game is against Sri Lanka at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on October 2.
 

Afghanistan will begin their World Cup 2023 campaign against Bangladesh at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on October 7.
