India lost to Australia by six wickets in World Cup 2023 final.

Travis Head scored a record-breaking 137 in the run case.

India lost to Australia in the World Cup final for the second time as Rohit Sharma-led side’s hopes of winning the coveted trophy after 12 years were crushed at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. India’s ODI and T20 World Cup winner, Gautam Gambhir took to social media platform X to share his views after India’s crushing six-wicket defeat at the hands of Pat Cummins-led side.

Gambhir wrote on X: “As I’ve said we are a champion team irrespective. So chin up boys….Many many congrats to Australia!”

Gambhir commentated in World Cup 2023 but he was not in the commentary panel for the final. He was at a Chath puja event in Delhi. The opener is currently playing in Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2023. Leading India Capitals in the LLC 2023 opener against Bhilwara Kings, he contributed with a 63-run knock. But he ended up on the losing side as Irfan Pathan’s fiery knock filled with nine sixes led the Kings to a three-wicket victory in a high-scoring run chase.

Gambhir will be seen in action again when defending champions India Capitals take on Urbanisers Hyderabad at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi on November 23.

Before the game, Gambhir had also predicted that India are unlikely to make any changes in the winning combinations despite the slow pitch in Ahmedabad helping the spinners. Gambhir said that Ravichandran Ashwin is likely to warm the bench and that’s exactly what happened as skipper Rohit Sharma did not tinker with the winning combination.

"I don't think so (on Ashwin playing the final). I don't see a place for him and why would you even tinker with what is working for you. What better performance can you expect from your five bowlers," Gambhir told Sportskeeda.

"After Hardik's injury, we have spoken that with just five specialist bowlers, teams will look to target one or two of them. However, that hasn't happened because of the quality of the five bowlers. We have spoken a lot about batters and I feel it is time to praise the bowlers for delivering under pressure," he added.
