Story Highlights:

Rachin Ravindra's dropped catch turned out to be costly for India in Dharamsala clash.

Ravindra Jadeja is arguably the best fielder in the current Indian squad. Jadeja has pulled off gravity-defying diving catches, and run-outs and stopped certain boundaries with his unreal efforts. But in the important clash against New Zealand, Jadeja dropped a regulation catch at backward point position.

The incident took place in the 11th over of the innings. Mohammed Shami was bowling. Rachin Ravindra punched the ball square off the wicket. Jadeja moved slightly to his left and got two hands to the ball but it popped out of his hands.

The dropped catch stunned everyone in the HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala including Jadeja’s wife Rivaba who was in attendance as well.

Ravindra was batting on 12 off 21 deliveries when his catch was dropped. He would have become Shami's second victim of the day and New Zealand’s score would have read 40/3 in the 12th over.

Rachin went on to share a crucial partnership with Daryl Mitchell after both openers returned to the pavillion early in the innings. He reached his half-century from 56 balls in the 23rd over.

In the previous game, Jadeja pulled off a jaw-dropping catch to dismiss Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim in the same position while diving to his right side. He signalled to the fielding coach T Dilip that he was the in-house gold medal for the catch. Dilip obliged and gave him the gold medal for the stupendous catch.

The left-arm spinner was impressive with the ball too as he took three wickets and was economical in his quota of 10 overs in the absence of an injured Hardik Pandya who had to leave the field.

Earlier in New Zealand’s innings, Shreyas Iyer pulled off a sharp catch at square leg to dismiss Kiwi opener Devon Conway for a nine-ball duck off Mohammed SIraj's bowling.
