India has now climbed to the second position in the list of the most successful teams in the history of the ODI World Cup. The Indian cricket team secured their 59th victory in the tournament by defeating defending champions England with a resounding 100-run win at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29.

India's impressive performance allowed them to surpass New Zealand, placing them second in terms of the most matches won in the history of the ODI World Cups. Australia, with 73 wins, remains the most successful team in the tournament, while India has firmly established itself as a formidable contender.
Following Australia and India, New Zealand has clinched 58 victories in ODI World Cups, England has managed 50 wins, Pakistan stands at 47 wins, and South Africa and West Indies share the record with 43 victories each.
India also boasts the second-highest winning percentage in ODI World Cups, triumphing in 65.56 percent of their matches in the prestigious competition. This places them ahead of South Africa, which has a winning percentage of 61.43 percent, but behind the dominant Australians with an impressive winning percentage of 73.
India's victory against England in the World Cup match was a remarkable achievement. They posted a competitive total of 229 for 9 runs on the scoreboard, with skipper Rohit Sharma leading the way with a brilliant half-century. Suryakumar Yadav also contributed with 49 runs, helping India set a challenging target.
In the second innings, Mohammed Shami was the star for India, wreaking havoc with a four-wicket haul while conceding just 22 runs in his seven overs. This impressive bowling performance led to England being bowled out for 129 runs in 34.5 overs.
With this win, India not only secured a top spot in the World Cup 2023 points table but also enhanced their net run-rate to +1.405. In contrast, England remained at the bottom of the table with only two points from their first six matches and a net run-rate of -1.652.
India's resurgence and strong performance have solidified their position as one of the tournament's frontrunners, with their eyes firmly set on clinching the ODI World Cup once again.
