"From our first medal ceremony to the last - thank you to all the fans who've given us a lot of love for it. Yesterday, we kept our spirits high in the dressing room and presented the best fielder award for one final time," BCCI tweeted.

India's fielding coach T Dilip praised the entire Team India unit for the exceptional show throughout the tournament, especially Kohli for his fielding effort in the final.

“Guys, I know it’s tough and well feel the pain but that’s what it is. We did everything possibly right and still the result is not in our favour. But I think as Rahul bhai said, we can all be proud of ourselves,” Dilip said in a video posted by the BCCI.Tv.

“I appreciate and thank every player in this group who have committed in the practice sessions. The way you put yourself on the line, you put intent, energy. I couldn’t ask more than this. Well done!,” he added.

Talking about the match, India were restricted to a modest total of 240 in their allotted 50 overs. Batting on a challenging wicket India rode on impressive knocks from skipper Rohit Sharma (47 off 31), Virat Kohli (54 off 63 balls), and KL Rahul (66 off 107 balls).

Chasing a target of 241 runs, India had the formidable Australian batting lineup reeling at 47/3. However, gritty knocks from Travis Head (137 off 120 balls) and Marnus Labuschagne (58 off 110 balls) silenced the Indian bowling attack and propelled Australia to a six-wicket victory, recording sixth World Cup title.
