Pakistan's pathway to the semi-finals is fraught with challenges, especially after New Zealand's convincing win over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on November 9. The Kiwis, having chased down Sri Lanka's total of 171 with five wickets and an impressive 160 balls to spare, have edged closer to clinching the last semi-final spot.
The mathematical, albeit improbable, scenario for Pakistan's advancement involves a gargantuan win against England in their upcoming fixture in Kolkata on November 11. Should Pakistan set a target, a monumental score of 300 would require them to limit England to a paltry 13 runs, thus achieving a victory margin of 287 runs.
Alternatively, if Pakistan were to field first, the challenge becomes even steeper. Dismissing England for 100 runs and chasing the target in just 2.5 overs, or with 283 balls remaining, is the daunting task at hand.
Amidst this near-impossible cricket equation, Wasim Akram whimsically proposed that Pakistan amass as many runs as they can and then playfully 'lock' the England team in their dressing room to secure a 'timeout' victory.
"Make whatever score that is possible and then go and lock the dressing room of the England team for 20 minutes so that all their batters get timed out."
This was complemented by another playful jest from Misbah-ul-Haq, who humorously suggested locking the England team out before the match begins.
