Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was clearly unhappy after his team were unable to go past the finish line during their Super 12 match against India on Wednesday, November 2, at the Adelaide Oval. The side were set a tough target of 185 runs, but with Bangladesh veteran Litton Das smashing a 21-ball half-century, the match seemed firmly in the hands of the opponents. But that was till rain affected the match.
After the rain delay, Bangladesh were given a revised target of 151 off 16 overs. Litton scored 60 runs off 27 balls with seven fours and three sixes to lay the platform for Bangladesh but a brilliant pin-point throw in the eighth over turned the tide as India fought their way back to the win.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib also heaped praise on Liton for taking Bangladesh off to a decent start in the powerplay."It's been the story when we play India. We're almost there but don't cross the line. It was a great game, the crowd enjoyed it, and both teams enjoyed it, in the end, someone has to win and someone has to lose. Litton is batting really well, probably he's our best batsman going around. We thought we could chase this down after that start," Shakib was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.
"Our plan was to get India's top order quickly, that's why I bowled out Taskin, he's been our main bowler. Unfortunately, he couldn't get wickets today, he was unlucky but it was a plan to get India's top order out to dictate the game. We're positive, we wanted to enjoy this World Cup, hopefully, we can continue this," he added.
With 20 runs needed in the last over, Nurul Hasan Sohan scored an unbeaten 14-ball 25 with two fours and six, but his efforts went in vain. With the Tigers needing seven runs off the last ball, Sohan could only pick up a single off Arshdeep Singh.
