Arundhati Reddy

Arundhati Reddy of India leaves the field injured during the warm-up match against England prior to the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup India 2025 at BCCI Centre of Excellence 1 on September 25, 2025 in Bengaluru.

Story Highlights:

Arundhati Reddy was taken off the field on wheelchair during England warm-up game.

Reddy bagged 2 wickets against New Zealand in the second warm-up game.

India's 28-year-old pacer Arundhati Reddy had an injury scare with less than a week to go into the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 opener. She awkwardly landed on her left leg while attempting Heather Knight's catch on follow-through. She had to be escorted off the field on a wheelchair. While it seemed India’s fast-bowling stocks will be depleted,  she recovered and return to the field for the second warm-up game against New Zealand on September 27 and claimed a couple of wickets. After the game teammate, Harleen Deol asked what went in Reddy’s mind while she was recovering from the injury.

“I just wanted to ask that you know, yesterday — I mean, in the last game — you were in a wheelchair. How difficult was it for you to recover so quickly? And I know all the fans back home, the people who love you, were there. They were a little tense. How was that experience?" Harleen asked in a video posted by the BCCI on social media.

Reddy thanked the medical staff for her swift recovery. She admitted that she was scared at first but eventually had the confidence that she will play in the next game.

"Initially, it was scary for me as well because at that time it was quite a big impact, so I was really scared to even get up. But I would really like to thank the medical staff and the team because they really did a good job and gave me the confidence that I could play. So I would really like to thank them,” Arundhati said.

Comfortable win over White Ferns

Young pacer Kranti Goud claimed two wickets whereas Shree Charani bagged three, restricting New Zealand to 232/8. In the run chase, India got off to a decent start. Opening in place of Smriti Mandhana, Uma Chetry scored 38 runs from 36 balls. Later, Harleen and Harmanpreet Kaur's fifties helped hosts India chase down the target of 237 with four wickets in hand and 10 deliveries to spare.
