Story Highlights:

Abhishek Sharma likely to be included in India's ODI squad vs Australia.

Abhishek Sharma is India's highest run-getter in Asia Cup 2025.

India's young batter Abhishek Sharma is currently in the form of his life. The southpaw is currently the highest run-getter in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, smashing 173 runs in four matches at an average of 43.25. The 25-year-old star will now reportedly earn an ODI call-up, as early as the tour of Australia next month. India are set to play three ODIs, followed by five T20Is in Australia.

The three-match ODI series between India and Australia is scheduled to start on October 19. TOI reported that the destructive southpaw has impressed the men who matter with his exploits in the shortest format, and the management could well reward him with an ODI call.

Abhishek was also seen bowling for hours in nets, and that makes him a perfect fit for Gautam Gambhir's set-up for India. The Punjab-born star also holds a great record in List A matches.  In 61 matches, he has amassed 2014 runs at an average of 35.33 and a strike rate of 99.21. He has also picked up 38 wickets with his left-arm spin.

TOI also reported that Abhishek's fearless batting approach during India's Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash against Pakistan assured the management about his ability to excel in high-pressure situations.

It is understood that the match against Pakistan, where Abhishek and his childhood friend Shubman Gill put on a show by adding 105 runs for the opening wicket in just 9.5 overs, assured the decision makers of his ability to excel in intense pressure situations.

However, there are chances that Abhishek will be included in the squad as a reserve opener since Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are the set openers for India in the 50-over format.

Notably, India will play a two-Test match series against West Indies, which is scheduled to start from October 02, and the BCCI will announce India's squad for the red-ball series on 24 September.
