Morne Morkel provided a big injury update on Nitish Kumar Reddy ahead of 4th T20I

Reddy was ruled out of first 3 T20Is due to a neck spasm

India bowling coach Morne Morkel shared a big injury update on Nitish Kumar Reddy with the fourth T20I of the series against Australia right around the corner. The all-rounder was ruled out of the first three T20Is after he sustained a neck spasm while undergoing recovery from a left quadriceps injury. Notably, the 22-year-old had sustained the injury during the 2nd ODI against Australia and thus, had not featured in the third and final match of the series.

Morkel stated that Reddy had trained hard during the team's latest practice session and completed all the tasks that he was expected to do. However, he also said that the final call regarding the all-rounder's participation will be taken on the day of the match.

“Yeah, he did all his work that was needed or expected of him today, fielding, batting, bowling. And he picked all of that. So, we’ll find out now after the assessment where he is at," Morkel said in the pre-match press-conference.

BCCI's statement on Reddy

The BCCI had earlier confirmed that Reddy will not be participating in the first three T20Is as the neck spasm had disrupted his recovery from the quadriceps injury. It remains to be seen if he will return to action for the 4th T20I or not.

“Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out for the first three T20Is. The all-rounder who was recovering from his left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, complained of neck spasms, which has impacted his recovery and mobility. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress," BCCI said in a statement.

The series hangs in the balance

Meanwhile, India managed to level the five-match series at 1-1 with their 5-wicket victory over Australia in the third T20I at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. After the hosts had set up a formidable target of 187, it was Washington Sundar who became the Men in Blue's saviour with his match-winning knock of 49. He was assisted well by Jitesh Sharma, who played an impactful cameo of 22 runs and ensured that the visitors reached the target with 9 deliveries left to spare. They will be looking to maintain this form in the 4th T20I that will take place on November 6 at the Carrara Oval in Queensland.
