India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer had to leave the field midway during the third ODI against Australia after he sustained an injury while completing a brilliant catch that brought Alex Carey's innings to an end. The incident happened on the fifth ball of the 34th over that was bowled by Harshit Rana. Carey tried to play a big shot and tried to go over mid-off/extra cover, but ended up slicing the delivery a long way up in the air. Shreyas ran back from backward point and timed his jump to perfection, ensuring that the visitors get rid of Carey.
However, this proved to be a bittersweet moment for Iyer as he ended up injuring his rib cage while trying to complete the catch. The injury looked to be serious and the 30-year-old was soon taken off the field. Iyer didn't return to field for the remainder of Australia's innings and now BCCI has provided a big update regarding his injury.
Big update on Iyer's injury
According to the update, Iyer had injured his left rib cage while trying to complete the catch and has been taken to the hospital for further assessment. This can go on to be a big blow for the batter as the injury looks to be serious and it remains to be seeen if he will end up missing games because of it or not.
