Rohit Sharma-led India are currently facing a lot of criticism after they lost 1-3 against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conducted a meeting to review India's loss in the five Test match series against Australia attended by head coach Gautam Gambhir, India captain Rohit Sharma along with selector Ajit Agarkar and other board members.
After the review meeting, the report came out that, BCCI wants to re-introduce the old rule, which was disposed of during COVID-19. Wives and family members would not be allowed to travel with the players of the Indian team for the entire tour. The board officials believe that staying with the players during the tour, especially during overseas assignments, affects their performance. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, wives and families of many cricketers were in Australia for the entire tour.
As per the new rule, for a tournament or a series lasting more than 45 days, the wife and families of a player can stay with them for only 14 days and for the shorter tours, the family stay will be reduced to just seven days.
Sources Close to Sports Tak said that during the review meeting India head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke about indiscipline in the Indian dressing room and that is the reason why BCCI is going back to pre-COVID rules of 2 weeks of family on tour.
Gambhir and the players were on the same page regarding the family stay during the tour. The head coach also suggested board be strict with Junior/Younger cricketers.
One senior player who was part of the meeting suggested the idea of not distributing the match fee because players are not giving priority to domestic and national teams and to disburse after the matches looking at the performance of the players.
Sports Tak also understands that Gautam Gambhir may meet a BCCI official in Kolkata sidelines India vs England 1st T20I.
Team India are scheduled to play five T20Is against England which is scheduled to start from January 22.
