Opener Gongadi Trisha starred with a half-century as India beat Bangladesh by 41 runs in the Under-19 Women's T20 Asia Cup 2024 final on December 22 in Kuala Lumpur. India outclassed Bangladesh as they claimed the inaugural U-19 Women's T20 Asia Cup title. Chasing a target of 118, Bangladesh were bowled out for 76 asonly two of their batters managed to score in double digits.

Slow start for India

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Sumaiya Akter won the toss and opted to bowl first. India lost two early wickets in the powerplay overs. Farjana Easmin dismissed opener G Kamalini and Sanila Chalke. Trisha and captain Niki Prasad shared a 41-run partnership. Habiba Islam knocked over Prasad who scored 12 runs from 21 balls.

Trisha's fifty, Mithila's cameo help India post fighting total

Ishwari Awsare could not do much damage either and got out stumped to Nishita Akter Nishi in the 15th over. Trisha reached her half-century and lost her wicket to Easmin. The opener's 47-ball 52 was laced with five fours and a couple of sixes. Aayushi Shukla scored 10 runs from 13 balls before getting stumped. Mithila Vinod's 12-ball 17 cameo helped India finish well. She became Easmin's fourth victim. VJ Joshitha and Shabnam Shakil helped India post 117/7 on the board.

Bangladesh suffer collapse

In the run chase, Bangladesh lost two wickets in the powerplay overs as well. Joshitha dismissed Mosammat Eva for a two-ball duck whereas Sumaiya Akther got out lbw to Parunika Sisodia. Fahomida Choya and Juairiya Ferdous got the run chase back on track. Sonam Yadav broke the partnership with Choya's wicket. The opener scored 18 runs from 24 balls. Β

Skipper Sumaiya Akter got out stumped to Sonam Yadav. Wicketkeeper-batter Ferdous got bowled by Shukla. They suffered a batting collapse and were bowled out for 76 in 18.3 overs. Shukla bagged three wickets whereas Sisodia and Sonam took two wickets each.

India remained not out throughout the tournament. Bangladesh had qualified for the final after registering a comprehensive 9-wicket against Nepal in the Super Four clash. They were unbeaten in the tournament before the final.Β
