Following the news that the Indian cricket team's star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin tested positive for Covid-19 before leaving for England for the rescheduled fifth Test, reports surfaced of Virat Kohli also falling prey to the recent surge in cases in India. But the timeline of his illness is not yet clear as Kohli was pictured in the Maldives. He was also seen in practice videos posted by Leicestershire's social media team. The BCCI also tweeted a pic of the former India skipper with members of the Test team.
Kohli returned from the Maldives on June 13 after spending time on holiday with his actor-wife Anushka Sharma and their daughter Vamika after Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)'s journey in IPL 2022. He returned on June 14 and was also seen visiting a hospital in Mumbai, raising concerns about Kohli's health.
Kohli travelled to England along with the full Indian team, having been rested for the recently concluded T20I series vs South Africa. Since then, the former Indian skipper has been seen practicing with the Indian team. On June 17, India started practice at the Lord's in London and was also pictured in these sessions.
On June 20, Leicestershire also posted a video of the Indian team, in which Kohli can be seen talking to the players. This raises the question as to whether Kohli was actually afflicted and when did this unfortunate mishap take place?
If Kohli tested positive in India, he definitely would not have travelled to England with the team. If he had Covid-19 when in England, then Kohli would have to be quarantined for at least five days. But neither of these scenarios has seemingly taken place.
BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal informed in a conversation with Sports Tak, "The news roaming around is not in my knowledge I have not given any advisory to the team in England. Since there is no bubble they can do what they want keeping in mind the Covid protocol. There is no problem in camp as far as Covid is concerned everyone is doing fine and they're getting ready for matches."
