Team India levelled the five-match Test series against England at 1-1 with their massive 336-run victory in the second game at Edgbaston. This was Shubman Gill's first victory as India's Test captain and it came after the Men in Blue had suffered a convincing five-wicket defeat in the first match of the series at Headingley.
Hussain feels Bumrah will be India's 'trump card' at Lord's
Despite pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah getting rested for the second Test, the Indian bowling department gave a fantastic performance to help the side in scripting a memorable victory. The visitors' bowling attack will get massively strengthened with Bumrah set to return to the playing XI in third Test. Former England captain Nasser Hussain feels that the 31-year-old speedster will be the Men in Blue's 'trump card' for the match at Lord's despite Gill's fantastic batting displays in the first two Tests.
"You feel like India have manoeuvred it well. People were critical of them leaving Jasprit Bumrah out and how they were going to take 20 wickets without Bumrah - well they have done that on a very flat pitch at Edgbaston," Hussain said on the Sky Sports Cricket broadcast.
"Now they have their trump card (Bumrah) coming in on a ground (Lord's) that he has bowled well at before and a ground at which he wants to get on the Honours Board after two weeks of rest," he added.
Both the sides made a change each to their respective playing XIs for the third Test. While India brought in Bumrah for Prasidh Krishna, England replaced Josh Tongue with Jofra Archer, who had last featured in a Test match for the Three Lions back in 2021. It will be interesting to see if these changes will end up benefitting the two sides or not during the match.
Notably, India do not have a great head-to-head record against England at Lord's. The Men in Blue have only recorded three victories in the 19 Tests they have played at the venue. They have also lost on a total of 12 occasions while the rest of the four matches have ended as draws. However, Shubman Gill & Co. will be looking to put the painful past behind them just like how they did at Edgbaston and will be trying to script a famous victory at arguably the most famous cricket venue in the world.
