India's newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill has said that no decision has been made on where he would bat in the upcoming five-Test match series against England. He said that the decision on his batting order will be taken after the intra-squad match and a camp in London before the red-ball series.
Gill addressed the media for the first time after becoming Rohit Sharma's successor to lead India in whites.
"We still have some time, we will be playing an intra-squad and have a 10-day camp in London. We will decide the batting order once we are there," Gill said on Thursday, June 5.
Gill further stated that he was overwhelmed when he got to know about management's decision to appoint him India's Test captain in the longest format of the game.
"It was very overwhelming, at the same time it was a big responsibility and looking forward to this great challenge," Gill added.
Team India will depart for England in the early hours of June 6 from Mumbai airport. This will be India's first Test assignment after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 where the Pat Cummins-led side defeated the Men in Blue 3-1 in the five-Test match series to seal their berth for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
The five-Test match series between India and England is scheduled to start from June 20, and this will be the first assignment for Gill to lead India in red-ball cricket. India last won a Test series in England in 2007 when they defeated the hosts 1-0 in a three-Test series.
