The Bengaluru police have arrested marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Nikhil Sosale, in connection with the stampede that occurred outside M Chinnaswamy stadium on Wednesday, June 4, during the team's IPL victory celebration in Bengaluru. 

Sosale, the head of marketing and revenue for RCB at Diageo India, was taken into custody at the Bengaluru airport when he was reportedly flying out to Mumbai.

Apart from that, three staff members of DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt. Ltd., the organisers of the victory celebrations, were also detained by the police.

The DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt. Ltd personnel, identified as Kiran, Sumanth and Sunil Mathew, were taken in for questioning. The interrogation was underway at the Cubbon Park Police Station, where the FIR regarding the stampede was registered, with RCB, the event organisation company and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) being named as accused.

Meanwhile, the KSCA secretary and treasurer were said to be on the run. The police reached their house but could not find them.

Earlier, the RCB announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the 11 supporters, who lost their lives in the stampede.

"As a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity, RCB has announced a financial support of Rs 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased. In addition, a fund called RCB Cares is also being created to support fans injured in this tragic incident," the team has said in a statement.

 

 

The tragedy happened on June 4 when nearly two and a half lakh people thronged the stadium to catch a glimpse of RCB cricketers after their maiden IPL trophy victory. The resultant chaos led to the death of 11 people, besides leaving several others injured on Wednesday.
