As the top cricket talents worldwide become available, the 10 IPL teams face the challenge of filling just 77 remaining slots, with a maximum of 30 for overseas players. Additionally, each team must adhere to a prescribed budget limit. This means, while a few players will be sought after, more than 250 are likely to remain unsold.

This is how unsold players can still participate in the IPL 2024

Even if a player goes unsold initially, it doesn't spell the end for their IPL 2024 prospects. There's still an opportunity for these players, especially uncapped ones, to be picked by franchises post-auction. First off, players who don't find a buyer in their first call can get a second chance. In the accelerated auction phase, auctioneer Mallika Sagar will allow teams to nominate players they wish to reconsider for bidding.

This process gives several unsold players another opportunity to be auctioned later in the day. Moreover, if a player remains unsold after the auction concludes, they aren't out of options for IPL 2024. Any player who registered for the 2024 IPL auction, whether sold initially or not, can be recruited by a franchise as a replacement for injured players, either before the season commences or even during the mid-season.

Notably, going into the IPL 2024 Auction, 2023 runners-up Gujarat Titans have the biggest purse of Rs 38.15 crore, whereas Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which finished last in the 2023, have Rs 34 crore remaining. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have Rs 32.7 crore, Chennai Super Kings (Rs 31.4 crore), Punjab Kings (Rs 29.1 crore), Delhi Capitals (Rs 28.95 crore), Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rs 23.25 crore), Mumbai Indians (Rs 17.75 crore), Rajasthan Royals (Rs 14.5 crore), and Lucknow Super Giants (Rs 13.15 crore) are the other teams.
