MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions of IPL.

Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an Indian Premier League (IPL) legend with five trophies as captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Dhoni has played for CSK for the majority of his IPL career barring the two seasons the franchise was banned and he represented the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). During a promotional event, Dhoni was asked by a fan whether he would support Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who are yet to win their maiden title.

"You know. They are a very good team. Also, what you need to see is that everything does not go according to plan. All 10 teams in the IPL, if they have full players, are very strong teams. The problem arises if you are missing a few players due to injury. So, they are a very good team, and everyone has a fair chance in the IPL. As of now, I have so many things to worry about on my own team. I would like to wish every team all the best, but I can't do much as of now. Imagine me coming out of the way to support or help another team. How would our fans feel? How would you feel?" Dhoni replied.

Dhoni is set to don the CSK jersey again in the upcoming IPL season. Dhoni confirmed that he wants to play in front of the Chepauk crowd after CSK beat Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023 final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In the IPL 2024 mini-auction, CSK went after New Zealand’s hard-hitting batting all-rounder Daryl Mitchell and roped him in for Rs 14 crore making him the second-most expensive Kiwi player in the league’s history. They invested in another Kiwi all-rounder Rachin Ravindra who they got for a steal deal of Rs 1.8 crore. Their surprise domestic pick was Sameer Rizvi who is known as ‘right-handed Raina’. Shardul Thakur, Mustafizur Rahman, and Avanish Rao Aravelly were their other buys in the auction.

CSK squad: MS Dhoni (c), Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajay Mandal, Mukesh Choudhary, Matheesha Pathirana, Ajinkya Rahane, Shaik Rasheed, Mitchell Santner, Simarjeet Singh, Nishant Sindhu, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana, Rachin Ravindra, Shardul Thakur, Daryl Mitchell, Sameer Rizvi, Mustafizur Rahman, Avanish Rao Aravelly.
