IPL 2024: With Pat Cummins named the 10th captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad; a look at all the previous 9 skippers

In a significant move ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Australian cricket team captain and ace fast bowler, Pat Cummins, has been appointed as the new skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), taking over the reins from South African batter Aiden Markram who led the team in the 2023 edition.

Cummins, celebrated for his remarkable leadership that led Australia to victories in the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup in 2023, and also clinching the Cricketer of the Year award, was acquired by SRH for a whopping Rs 20.50 crore during the auction

Since its inception in 2013, replacing Deccan Chargers, SRH has seen a variety of leaders at its helm. Here's a look at the captains who have led this Hyderabad-based franchise over the years in the IPL:

1. Kumar Sangakkara (2013)

The franchise's inaugural captain, former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara, led SRH in nine matches during the 2013 season, securing five wins and four losses. Mid-season, Cameron White took over the captaincy.

2. Cameron White (2013)

Australian batsman Cameron White took charge for eight matches in 2013, achieving five wins and three losses, leading SRH to the playoffs where they were edged out by Rajasthan Royals.

3. Shikhar Dhawan (2013, 2014)

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan captained SRH in the 2013 Champions League and 10 matches in the 2014 IPL season, with a record of seven wins and nine losses. Darren Sammy replaced him during the 2014 season.

4. Darren Sammy (2014)

The two-time T20 World Cup-winning West Indies captain led SRH for four matches in 2014, with an equal win-loss record. SRH finished sixth that year, missing out on the playoffs.

5. David Warner (2015, 2016, 2017, 2020, 2021)

Considered SRH's most successful captain, David Warner led them to their first IPL title in 2016 and consistently into the playoffs. Warner captained in 67 matches, with 35 wins under his belt.

6. Kane Williamson (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022)

Taking over from Warner in 2018, New Zealand's Kane Williamson showcased exceptional leadership, even winning the Orange Cap in 2018. Over his tenure, Williamson led in 46 matches, securing 22 victories.

7. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2019-2023)

India's pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar stepped in as captain for eight matches across various seasons, recording two wins and six losses.

8. Manish Pandey (2021)

Indian middle-order batsman Manish Pandey captained SRH for a single match in 2021, ending the season with a loss against Mumbai Indians.

9. Aiden Markram (2023)

Aiden Markram led SRH in the 2023 season but faced challenges as the team finished last with just four wins.
