Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher in his press conference on March 18 (Monday) confirmed that superstar batter Suryakumar Yadav hasn't been cleared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to participate in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Suryakumar recently underwent surgery for a sports hernia and has been sidelined from the sport for more than three months.

During the Mumbai Indians press conference, Boucher was quizzed about the update on injuries to Suryakumar Yadav and Sri Lanka's Dilshan Madushanka.

"We are awaiting updates on Suryakumar from the BCCI. We have always been under a cloud of fitness issues but we have a world-class medical team. We may lose one or two (players) in terms of fitness but we have to move on as is sport," Boucher said.

Surykumar began batting in the NCA

Suryakumar Yadav is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Recently, the No.1 ranked T20I batter was spotted batting in the nets at the NCA which offered a sigh of relief to the Mumbai Indians supporters.

However, an earlier report in the PTI said that Suryakumar could miss the initial two matches for Mumbai Indians.

"Surya's rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly 'Return to Play' in the IPL itself. However it is still not clear whether the NCA's Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27)," PTI had quoted a BCCI source as saying.

What happened to Dilshan Madushanka?

Sri Lanka's Dilshan Madushanka, who was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the auction, suffered a left hamstring injury during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka Cricket later ruled Madushanka out from the remaining matches of the tour.

Later, the Sports Tak reported that Madushanka might take time to recover from his injury and will miss the initial matches of IPL 2024.
