GT vs MI: Rohit Sharma achieves rare milestone for Mumbai Indians with sensational double ton

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma achieved a special double ton in a match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday (May 6). He completed 200 sixes for MI to become the second MI player to do so after star all-rounder Kieron Pollard.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma achieved a special double ton in a match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday (May 6). He completed 200 sixes for MI to become the second MI player to do so after star all-rounder Kieron Pollard. The 35-year-old smashed a quickfire 43 off 28 to help MI post a competitive total of 177/6. 

 

Rohit, who is the third highest six hitter in the history of IPL has cleared the parks on 235 occasion, with only Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers having smashed the ball more. While Gayle has 357 sixes, De Villiers has 251 sixes to his name. Rohit previously played for Deccan Chargers (DC) during a three-year spell, where he accommodated his other sixes. Rohit also became the second Indian batter after MS Dhoni to knock 200 sixes in IPL history earlier in 2020. After smashing his sixth six in the match against KKR, the 33-year-old accomplished the milestone.

Rohit struck a cross-batted lofted drive off Alzarri Joseph’s last delivery of the second over to cross the fence and achieve the milestone of 200 sixes.

 

With 3313 runs from 125 matches and 117 innings, Rohit Sharma also holds the record for most runs in a T20 International career. Rohit has 4 hundreds and 26 fifties in his T20I career, with an excellent strike rate of 139.55.

After a series of low scores, Rohit seemed to be in good touch as he took the early initiative, dominating the proceedings with his strokeplay as Kishan played the second fiddle The MI skipper was particularly harsh on Alzarri Joseph as he smashed the bowler for four boundaries and a six, while Kishan joined the party in the fifth over, slamming Rashid Khan for a couple of fours to bring up their 50-run partnership.
