The two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have roped in the services of Aarya Desai for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Notably Aarya has been signed for Rs 20 lakh for the sixteenth edition of the glitzy league. The star batter who represents Gujarat in domestic cricket doesn't have much exposure to cricket as he has 151 runs against his name in the three First Class matches he has played so far. Aarya had made his first-class debut in January and is yet to play List A or T20 cricket for his state team.
Aarya best performance came out against Vidarbha in a Ranji Trophy match at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur in January in which he scored a towering 88 runs. The 20-year-old is also an off-spinner which can come handy for KKR going forward in the tournament. Aarya has joined KKR's squad as Shreyas Iyer's replacement will undergo surgery on his injured back and will therefore miss the entire 2023 IPL, and the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June.
