Delhi Capitals' (DC) horror show in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 continues as they have lost five matches on the trot and are teetering at the bottom of the points table and are still searching their ways to get back to winning ways. DC lost their last match to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 23 runs to extend their losing streak in the cash-rich league.

Now that they are nearing the possible ouster from the tournament, provided they continue their lacklustre show in the IPL 2023, they have summoned their uncapped duo of Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyam Garg for trials.

With the 25-member DC squad, it is yet to be known who Easwaran and Priyam will replace in the side which is in the crisis mode. Barring skipper David Warner, who has shown intent with the bat and have produced some fine knocks for his team in the IPL 2023, the entire batting unit of DC is misfiring, including Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan. The panic around the DC camp has forced DC to start exploring options in Easwaran, who is known for his red-ball cricket. One more loss and DC could be doomed from the sixteenth edition of the cash-rich league.

"The maximum squad strength is 25 and DC has maximum squad strength. Now whether they would replace someone isn't known. As of now, both are on trial," an IPL source tracking DC's developments told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Talking about Easwaran's profile, he has featured in 27 T20 games in his cricketing tenure of 10 years. But if included in the main squad, it's tough to say whether Easwaran's exploits can help DC revive their chance as the Delhi batter boast of a not-so-impressive strike rate of 121.53. The only century he has in T20s has come against a northeastern state.

As far as Priyam Garg is concerned, he could be a better choice than Easwaran as the former India Under-19 skipper has already played three IPL seasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he has only averaged 15.69 in 17 innings and has a strike rate of just 115.14. Garg couldn't attract any bidders in the IPL 2023 auction after being released by SRH and so was the case with Easwaran.

It will be interesting to see whether DC, who are on the brink of elimination, can revive their chances or will continue their horror show in the tournament. DC will next face two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Delhi on April 20.
