Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost their third match in a row in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). On Sunday (April 3), CSK suffered 54-run defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Skipper's reaction
While talking about the defeat, CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja pointed out that they “lost too many wickets in powerplay.”
“We lost too many wickets in the powerplay, we didn’t find the momentum from ball one, so we need to find a way how we can get better and come back stronger," Jadeja said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
On the other hand, CSK opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in poor form in the 15th edition of IPL. Gaikwad had exhibited a terrific show in IPL 2021. The Maharashtra-born cricketer had scored 635 runs last season and won the Orange Cap as well. But things have been pretty different for him this time.
In the IPL 2022 season opener, Gaikwad failed to score a single run against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In the second match, he scored one run against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and in the third match he again scored just a single run against PBKS.
Confidence is crucial
After the defeat against Jadeja talked about the opening batter’s form. The CSK skipper feels that the team “need to give him confidence.”
“We need to give him confidence, we need to back him. We all know that he’s a very good player. So we will definitely going to back him, and I’m sure he will come good.”
Batting first, the Mayank Agarwal-led side had registered a total of 180/8 in 20 overs against CSK. PBKS all-rounder Liam Livingstone played a brilliant innings of 60 runs off 32 balls to help his side in reaching a solid total.
In reply, the defending champions lost their first five wickets within eight overs. Later, all-rounder Shivam Dube (57 runs off 30 balls) put up a valiant effort to help his side in avoiding the early danger. But eventually his innings proved to be inconsequential as CSK were bundled out for 126 in 18 overs.
While talking about Dube’s super batting, Jadeja opined that “keeping him in a good frame of mind will be key.”
“He’s been batting so well. He was also batting well today. Keeping him in a good frame of mind will be key.”
