Mumbai Indians (MI) have become the first team to get knocked out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. They are at a point where they can try out new players from the squad and groom them for the next season. As MI play table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next clash, fans are eager to know when legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun will get to make his IPL debut.
Arjun was picked by the Mumbai-based franchise in the previous season. However, he left the second phase of IPL 2021 in UAE due to an injury. At the mega auctions, MI picked the youngster for Rs 30 lakh. Coincidentally, Titans were the only team that placed a bid for Arjun other than Rohit Sharma-led MI. Ahead of their 10th clash of the season coach Mahela Jayawardene answered the popular question.
"Well, I think everyone is the squad is an option. We will see how things go. It is about match-ups and how we can win the matches and our priority is to make sure that we get the right match-ups.
"Every game is a confidence thing, we managed to get our first win and it is about stringing wins together and get the confidence back. It is about putting the best guys in the park. If Arjun is one of them, then we will consider it, yes, but it all depends on the combination that we put out," Mahela Jayawardene said.
MI have posted a few videos of Arjun bowling in the nets. The left-arm pacer made headlines when he got MI’s most expensive player in the auction -- Ishan Kishan – bowled in the practice session.
In the 24-man MI squad, there are only few members left to don the jersey on the field.
The 22-year-old has played only two T20 matches so far. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy he has got a couple of wickets to his name. A handy batter down the order, he did not get enough chances to showcase his hitting skills.
